Logo design cost in India
What a logo costs in India in 2026 from AI tools, freelancers, studios and agencies, what each price band actually delivers, the files you must receive, and who owns the design.

Logo design cost in India rises with the amount of thinking behind the mark: AI generators and template sites are the cheapest, freelancers cost more, design studios more again, and branding agencies the most because the logo comes out of strategy work. The cheapest options often leave you with no exclusive rights and files you cannot print.
A logo is the one design you will use for a decade on everything from your signboard to your GST invoices, so the price question is really a question of what you get for the money. This guide sets out the price bands, what each one delivers, the files you should refuse to pay without, and how ownership and copyright work in India. Our own logo and identity packages are described on the branding and graphic design page and quoted after a short brief.
Key takeaways
- The cheapest tier buys a template or AI output you may not be able to trademark and may share with other businesses.
- An experienced freelancer or small studio is the right buy for most small businesses, if vector files and a written assignment are included.
- Studio and agency work should include research, several concepts, a full logo system and a guidelines document.
- Never accept a logo without SVG or AI vector files, single-colour versions and CMYK colour codes.
- Get copyright assigned to you in writing. In India, paying the designer is not enough on its own.

What you get at each band
AI generators and template sites. The tool recombines icons and fonts from a library. The same icon may appear on another brand’s board. You cannot register a trademark on a stock icon, and file formats are often screen-only. Acceptable for a side project. Risky for a business you plan to run for years.
Beginner freelancers. A beginner draws something from your description. There is usually no brief, no competitor check and no thought about where the logo will be used. Expect to redo it sooner than you would like.
Experienced freelancers and small studios. A professional asks questions first: what you sell, to whom, where the logo appears, who your competitors are. You get two or three distinct concepts, two rounds of changes, vector files, colour, black and white versions, and a simple sheet showing minimum size and clear space. For a small business, this is the right buy.
Design studios and small agencies. Research into your category and competitors, a short discovery session, more concepts, and a complete system: horizontal and stacked versions, icon-only, colour palette with print and screen codes, typography, a guidelines PDF, and stationery or social templates. Right for businesses with customer-facing premises, packaging or multiple branches.
Branding agencies. Strategy before design: positioning, audience research, sometimes naming. The logo becomes one output of a brand programme. Right for funded startups, D2C brands and firms rebranding at scale.
What changes the price
- Research and strategy. Hours spent understanding your market before drawing.
- Number of concepts and revisions. Each real concept is a day or more of work.
- Designer experience. A ten-year designer costs more and gets it right faster.
- Deliverables. A mark alone versus a full system with templates.
- Usage. Packaging, signage and embroidery need more versions and tests than a website.
- Trademark search. Checking the IP India database before finalising, so you do not fall in love with a mark you cannot register.
- Speed. Rush jobs under a week carry a premium.
Files you must demand
| File or asset | Why you need it |
|---|---|
| SVG, AI or EPS (vector) | Scales to any size for signboards, vehicles, packaging without blurring |
| PDF (vector) | What printers and signage vendors ask for |
| Transparent PNG at several sizes | Website, social media, presentations, WhatsApp |
| JPG on white | Documents, marketplace listings, directories |
| Favicon set (ICO and PNG) | Browser tab and bookmark icon |
| Horizontal, stacked and icon-only versions | Wide spaces, square spaces, profile pictures |
| Full colour, single-colour black, single-colour white | Print, embroidery, stamps, dark backgrounds |
| Colour codes in HEX, RGB, CMYK and Pantone | Matching colour on screen and in print |
| Font names and licence details | So your team can use the same type |
| One-page usage sheet | Minimum size, clear space, what not to do |
| Editable source file | So any future designer can work from the original |
If a provider will not give you vector files or the source file, you are renting the logo. Our brand identity checklist covers how to organise and use these files afterwards.
Ownership and copyright in India
A logo is an artistic work under the Copyright Act, 1957. Copyright arises automatically for the creator the moment it is drawn. Whether paying for it transfers ownership to you depends on the terms of the engagement, and the Act’s rules on commissioned work do not clearly cover every kind of logo. The safe position is simple: get a written assignment of copyright, signed by the designer, that transfers all rights to your business on final payment. Many providers include this in their agreement; others do not unless you ask, so check before you pay. This is general information, not legal advice; have a lawyer check the wording of your assignment.
Copyright protects the drawing. A trademark protects your use of it in business. The official fee to file a trade mark application (Form TM-A) is Rs 4,500 per class when e-filed by an individual, startup or small enterprise, and Rs 9,000 per class for other applicants (IP India fee schedule), plus attorney fees if you use one. A stock icon or AI output usually cannot be registered because it lacks distinctiveness or because you do not own it.
Two more ownership points. Fonts are licensed separately, so a logo built on a font with a restricted licence can cause trouble on packaging. And if your designer used a stock element, ask for the licence and prefer a redraw.
Red flags
- Rock-bottom “logo packages” with hundreds of five-star reviews. Templates.
- “Unlimited revisions.” Means no process, and the price will be made up on scope.
- No written brief before the first concept.
- Only PNG or JPEG delivered.
- The designer keeps the source file “for safety”.
- No contract or invoice, so no proof of assignment.
- A concept that looks like a well-known brand with the colours changed.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I pay for a logo in India?
Budget for an experienced freelancer or small studio if you need a professional logo with vector files and a usage sheet, and for a studio if you need a complete identity with colours, type and guidelines. Strategy-led work from a branding agency costs the most. Get each quote against the same list of concepts, revisions and files.
How much do freelance logo designers charge in India?
Rates vary widely with experience, and beginners charge much less than experienced designers. Check their portfolio for logos in use on real businesses, and confirm vector files and copyright assignment are included.
Is a Rs 500 logo worth it?
Only as a placeholder for a test project. It will be template-based, often non-exclusive, impossible to trademark and usually delivered without vector files. Most businesses end up replacing it and paying twice.
What files should a logo designer give me?
Vector files (SVG, AI or EPS), a vector PDF, transparent PNGs, JPGs, favicon files, every version in colour, black and white, colour codes in HEX, RGB, CMYK and Pantone, font details and the editable source file.
Who owns the logo after I pay for it?
In India, copyright belongs to the creator unless assigned in writing. Paying the invoice does not reliably transfer it. Ask for a signed assignment of all rights to your business and keep it with the invoice. Then register the trademark.
How long does logo design take?
One to two weeks for a freelancer or small studio, two to four weeks for a studio producing a full system, and four to eight weeks for an agency doing strategy first. Your feedback speed is usually the biggest variable.
