Digital marketing for CA firms, law firms and professional practices

Digital marketing for CA firms and law firms works inside rules that most agencies ignore. Chartered accountants, advocates and CS practitioners in India cannot advertise the way a salon or a builder can. What you can do is be found, be credible and be easy to contact. Zuptek Infotech, a digital marketing agency headquartered in Faridabad, helps CA firms, law firms, tax consultants, CS practices and compliance consultants across India do exactly that. The thing that matters most is demonstrated expertise: a website and Google presence that answer the questions your future clients are already searching for, written by you and found by them.

In detail

How clients find a CA or lawyer today

Professional services are still referral-led, but the referral is checked online before the first call.

Google Search with a problem

“GST registration consultant near me”, “income tax notice reply”, “divorce lawyer near the district court”, “business registration fees”, “property dispute advocate”. The searcher has a problem and a deadline.

Google Maps

“CA near me” and “advocate near me” return the map pack. For individuals and small businesses, proximity and an accurate listing decide the shortlist.

Name check after referral

A friend gives a name. The client searches it, looks at the Google listing, the website and LinkedIn, and only then calls. A firm with no website or an outdated one loses referrals it never knew about.

LinkedIn

Business owners, CFOs and founders follow professionals who explain changes in tax, corporate law and compliance clearly. This is where corporate clients form opinions.

Directories

Justdial, Sulekha and professional society directories still generate enquiries for registrations and filings, mostly price-sensitive. CA firms should note that ICAI has said members may not list themselves on application-based service aggregator platforms, so check any platform against that before signing up.

WhatsApp

Document collection, engagement letters and follow-up all happen on WhatsApp. A quick, clear reply wins the engagement.

Deliverables

What we do for CA firms and law firms

SEO built on expertise

  • Service pages for each practice area: GST, income tax, audit, business incorporation, FEMA, startup advisory, or civil, criminal, family, property and corporate law.
  • Keyword research around problems and deadlines: notices, due dates, registrations, disputes.
  • Technical and on-page work on sites that are usually five years old and unloved. See SEO services.

Google Business Profile and local SEO

  • Categories set correctly: chartered accountant, tax consultant, law firm, attorney, notary.
  • Factual details only: name, address, phone, hours and practice areas. No offers, no fee posts, no review-request campaigns; we reply factually to reviews clients choose to leave.
  • Office page with court or jurisdiction details, parking and timings. See local SEO.

Professional website

  • Clean, fast, factual: partners, qualifications, practice areas, office address, contact. No client names or logos, no fees, no testimonials and no “leading” or “top firm” claims, all of which the ICAI website guidelines list as prohibited.
  • Secure document upload and WhatsApp contact. See web development.

Content marketing

  • Explainers on tax changes, compliance calendars, court procedures and FAQs, written by the firm and edited by us for search.
  • Monthly newsletter or WhatsApp update to clients summarising deadlines. See content marketing.

LinkedIn for partners

  • Partner profiles optimised for the practice area, a weekly post schedule and engagement with client industries. See LinkedIn marketing.

Reputation

We do not run Google Ads or Meta ads for advocates or for CA firms. Both professions are barred from advertising and solicitation except in the narrow forms their councils permit, so our work is SEO, an informative website, content and reputation.

  • Monitoring of Google, Justdial and bar or ICAI directory listings, with correction of wrong details and a response protocol. See online reputation management.
What to expect

Compliance and industry rules

Advocates

Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Rules (Part VI, Chapter II) says an advocate shall not solicit work or advertise, directly or indirectly, whether by circulars, advertisements, touts, personal communications or interviews. A 2008 amendment to Rule 36 allows advocates to publish limited particulars on a website, such as name, contact details, enrolment number, professional and academic qualifications and areas of practice, with a declaration that the information is accurate. The Bar Council of India has not issued separate social media rules, so Rule 36 applies to every medium, and state bar councils have cautioned advocates against indirect solicitation online.

Chartered accountants

Clauses (6) and (7) of Part I of the First Schedule to the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 bar solicitation and advertising except as permitted by the Council. ICAI’s advisory on its Website Guidelines (October 2020) lists content that may not appear on a member’s or firm’s website, including client names and logos, testimonials naming clients, professional fees, superlatives such as “leading”, “best” or “top”, “why choose us” sections and advertisements for any service. The full guidelines are in the ICAI Code of Ethics, Volume II. CS practitioners follow comparable ICSI guidelines.

In practice this means we focus on being found and being informative, keep copy factual and free of superlatives, and review every page against the relevant institute’s current guidance before it goes live.

In detail

A 90-day plan for a CA or law firm

What results look like

We report enquiries by practice area and source, calls from the Google Business Profile, rankings for practice area terms, and LinkedIn profile views and inbound messages.

  • Map pack visibility for the practice area and “near me” searches around each office, tracked monthly.
  • Organic enquiries by practice area, so you can see whether GST, litigation or incorporation pages are bringing work.
  • Content that ranks on law changes. The closest published example is our work for Digiliance, a labour-law compliance software business: legal explainers built the authority, and the site went from 125 to 7,120 organic clicks a quarter with 150+ qualified B2B leads.

The local search method is covered in our local SEO guide for India.

Questions

Digital marketing for CA firms: questions people ask

Anything else? Call +91 98218 37342 or write to [email protected].

Can a CA firm do digital marketing in India?

Yes, within ICAI guidelines. A website with permitted content, a factual Google Business Profile, informative articles and a LinkedIn presence are the usual tools. Solicitation, advertising outside the forms the Council permits, fee mentions, client names and superlatives are not allowed. Check the current ICAI Website Guidelines before any change.

Can lawyers advertise online in India?

No. Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Rules prohibits advocates from advertising or soliciting work, directly or indirectly. A website carrying the limited particulars permitted by the 2008 amendment is allowed. Our work for law firms focuses on SEO, an informative website and reputation, never ads.

How do CA firms get clients online?

By answering the questions clients search before they need a CA: notices, registrations, due dates, compliance for a new business. Practice area pages and explainer articles bring those searchers to you, and the Google Business Profile converts the local ones.

Is a Google Business Profile allowed for chartered accountants?

The ICAI Website Guidelines do not mention Google Business Profile specifically. Many CA firms keep a listing with factual firm details only. We keep the profile to name, address, phone, hours and services, avoid promotional posts and fee mentions, and do not run review-request campaigns. If you are unsure, ask the ICAI Ethical Standards Board before publishing.

How long does SEO take for a professional services firm?

Local map pack improvements usually show within 1 to 3 months. Practice area pages typically take 3 to 6 months to rank for competitive terms in a large city. Content compounds, so year two outperforms year one.

Do you work with the industries our clients come from?

Yes. CA and law firms often serve builders and manufacturers. See our real estate and manufacturing and B2B pages.
